Good news for Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet: The government issues a decree to allow aircraft imports from Russia, China, Brazil, Canada, and the UK

The government has issued Decree No. 89/2025/NĐ-CP allowing the import of aircraft from many countries, including Russia, China, Brazil, Canada, and the UK, alongside previous regulations from FAA and EASA. This expansion is expected to enhance opportunities for Vietnamese airlines such as Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet, enabling them to access advanced aircraft technology from other nations.

The Ministry of Construction believes that the old regulation limiting to certificates from FAA and EASA has hindered airlines from operating efficiently. The aviation industry is facing challenges with 33 aircraft needing to be stored on the ground due to engine recalls, impacting operations and increasing flight fares.

Vietjet is considering using Comac aircraft from China for flights to Con Dao, while Vietnam Airlines is exploring the use of Embraer aircraft from Brazil for short and medium-haul routes. This is part of a restructuring strategy to improve fleet operations in the post-pandemic recovery.
