Hong Kong to develop crypto tracking tool for money laundering

The Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department is partnering with the University of Hong Kong to create a tool for monitoring cryptocurrency transactions linked to money laundering.

Between 2021 and May 2025, there were 39 significant money laundering cases, with seven involving cryptocurrencies, indicating a troubling trend.

A recent workshop gathered law enforcement and consulate officials from eight regions, fostering international collaboration against digital financial crimes.
