Huawei’s new CloudMatrix 384 touted as biggest test to Nvidia’s AI dominance

At WAIC in Shanghai, Huawei revealed its CloudMatrix 384 AI system, boasting 384 of its 910C chips. This offers a local alternative to Nvidia’s limited GB200 NVL72, aiming to provide significant processing power despite U.S. Export restrictions.

The CloudMatrix features a ‘supernode’ architecture that enhances communication between chips. The CEO of Huawei Cloud stated that this system is operational and represents a strong local solution to the chip shortages caused by foreign sanctions.

As Huawei demonstrates its advancements, Nvidia deals with smuggling claims regarding its B200 chips in China. Nvidia’s CEO acknowledged Huawei’s rapid progression while expressing intent to navigate legal barriers to re-enter the Chinese market.
