Illinois state senator’s bill seeks to claw back 163 million USD lost to crypto fraud

The Illinois Senate Executive Committee passed Senate Bill 1797, targeting regulation of digital asset businesses. Senator Mark Walker highlighted the 163 million USD lost to crypto fraud in 2023, stating the necessity for credible standards in the industry.

The bill designates the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation as the regulatory authority. Companies will need to comply with registration requirements and implement customer asset protection measures.
