Institutional Investors Now Hold 31% of All Bitcoin, Driven by ETFs and MicroStrategy

Institutional investors now own 31% of known Bitcoin holdings, a significant increase from 14% in 2023. MAJOR inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs, particularly BlackRock’s iShares, show remarkable growth, with 1.4 billion USD in weekly inflows by mid-December.

U.S. Government possesses 198,109 BTC, worth about 19 billion USD, primarily from Silk Road seizures. Meanwhile, China holds 190,000 BTC despite its crypto ban, and Bhutan holds 11,688 BTC from its mining efforts, adding to the institutional trend.
