On May 5, 2025, IOTA will officially transition to the Rebased Protocol, marking the most significant upgrade in its history. This new protocol allows for the introduction of staking rewards, enabling token holders to earn an annual percentage yield ranging between 10% and 15%.
The Rebased Protocol incorporates the Mysticeti consensus, enhancing transaction speed and scalability to over 50,000 transactions per second. It also enables the integration of smart contracts using the Move programming language to support sophisticated decentralized applications.
The transition has garnered substantial community backing, with a governance vote indicating strong agreement on the upgrade. This indicates a united effort towards improving IOTA’s infrastructure and engaging institutional participation in its ecosystem.
