Judge sentences SEC hacker to 14 months in prison

Eric Council Jr. Was sentenced following a hearing where the Justice Department sought a two-year term, while his defense requested one year and one day. The court ruled for 14 months in prison.

The hacking incident occurred in January 2024, when Council’s group accessed the SEC’s X account and falsely claimed that spot Bitcoin ETFs had received regulatory approval.
