Kenya’s largest slum has become a thriving Bitcoin economy

Around 200 residents of Kibera are using Bitcoin, largely fueled by the AfriBit Africa initiative. Although this Bitcoin adoption has arisen from three years of efforts among local activists, many users are primarily speculating on its growth.

Adoption faces challenges such as limited resources and educational needs. Many residents, despite being unbanked, are tempted by Bitcoin’s lower fees and potential for returns, yet, caution is needed due to the speculative nature of their investments.
