Starting July 1, 2025, Binh Duong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau will merge into Ho Chi Minh City, with major companies like Thế Giới Di Động, Hoa Sen, and Tan Hiep Phat relocating their headquarters to HCMC. Binh Duong has long been known as Vietnam’s “industrial capital,” hosting numerous firms in steel, food, and consumer goods. Ba Ria – Vung Tau serves as a hub for oil and gas and maritime activities with many large international companies. This merger will create a “super metropolis” covering 6,770 km² with over 14 million residents, and a projected GRDP of approximately 2.71 million billion VND (114-121 billion USD), representing 24% of Vietnam’s GDP. This incorporation aims to elevate HCMC’s economic standing, surpassing countries like Myanmar and Cambodia.
