Legal complexities delay the establishment of Bitcoin reserve, says White House Crypto Council director

Patrick Witt, Director of the White House Crypto Council, indicates that while efforts to form a Bitcoin reserve are progressing, legal complexities involving agencies like the Department of Justice are a significant barrier. The government’s plan emphasizes asset forfeiture as the primary means to acquire Bitcoin.

The Bitcoin community has voiced disappointment regarding the limitations on acquiring Bitcoin through market transactions. Nevertheless, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s mention of budget-neutral strategies has rekindled hopes for future Bitcoin purchases by the government.
