Kunal Mehta, also known as ‘Shrek’, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and money laundering, admitting to laundering at least 25 million USD in stolen cryptocurrency as part of a larger scheme that stole 263 million USD.
The cybercrime group utilized stolen funds for lavish purchases, including luxury cars and designer goods. U.S. Authorities have heightened efforts against crypto-related cybercrime and money laundering.
