Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong’s “Empire” has only 37.3% female staff but 59% of female leaders; the banking sector is the “sanctuary” for women except for Sacombank

The 2024 report on 21 major Vietnamese firms shows that the female staff rate at Vingroup is only 37.3%, yet 59% of leadership roles are held by women. Banking is the sector with the highest female staff rates, while Sacombank has only 48.3% female employees and 24.1% in management roles. Heavy industries like Hòa Phát (HPG) have less than 12% female workers, whereas banks can see up to 60% female presence. Although women in Vietnam make up more than 70% of the workforce, they face inequalities in advancement opportunities and bear the heavier burden of unpaid domestic work. ILO research indicates that women represent half of the workforce but only hold about a quarter of leadership positions. Notably, Mr. Vuong’s philosophy at Vingroup promotes “women’s empowerment” in leadership roles, though this is not uniformly adopted across all companies.
