    China to extend CBDC trial to most populous province

    China’s central bank is to extend the trial of its e-CNY digital currency to four major provinces including Guangdong, the most populous, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported Tuesday. The People’s Bank of China (PBOC) will also add Jiangsu, Hebei and Sichuan to the trial.

    As of October last year, around 140 million people had opened e-CNY wallets, and transactions worth 62 billion yuan ($9 billion) were carried out.

    Nasdaq (NDAQ), the second-largest U.S. stock market operator, is starting a cryptocurrency custody service as it aims to cash in on the demand from institutional crypto investors, according to a press release on Tuesday.

    “Demand among institutional investors for engaging in digital assets has increased in recent years, and Nasdaq is well-positioned to accelerate broader adoption and drive sustainable growth,” Tal Cohen, head of North American markets at Nasdaq, said in the release.

    Bloomberg, which obtained a copy of the proposed stablecoin bill, reported that stablecoin legislation being drafted in the House would place a two-year ban on crypto coins similar to TerraUSD, the algorithmic stablecoin that collapsed earlier this year.

    It would be illegal to issue or create ‘endogenously collateralized stablecoins’ that rely solely on the value of another digital asset from the same creator to maintain their fixed price.

    Nova Labs, the company behind the crypto-powered wireless network Helium, said subscribers will get U.S. nationwide 5G coverage through a new five-year agreement with cellular giant T-Mobile.

    Under the deal, Nova Labs also will be able to offer mobile products and services that use both networks, according to a press release. Terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed.

    MicroStrategy (MSTR) bought 301 Bitcoins (BTC) between Aug. 2 and Sept. 19 for about $6 million, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday.

    The software company that was co-founded by entrepreneur and crypto advocate Michael Saylor bought the world’s largest cryptocurrency at an average price of $19,851 per coin, the filing said. It now has almost 130,000 Bitcoins, acquiring them for a total price of $3.98 billion, or $30,639 per coin.
