    Over the weekend, an attacker submitted “a fabricated NEAR block” to the Rainbow bridge, requiring a so-called “safe deposit” of 5 ETH.

    Aurora Labs CEO Alex Shevchenko claimed that the attack was “mitigated automatically within 31 seconds,” showcasing a highly effective defense mechanism to protect users’ funds within the bridge. The attack was halted, and no property damage occurred.

    South Korea’s government has announced that it will begin imposing a git tax on crypto airdrops with the taxation rate being as high as 50% in some cases. The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said on August 22 that the taxation would be considered on a case-by-case basis and that it would range from 10 to 50%.

    The government official said that with respect to airdrops, “the gift tax will be levied on the third party to whom the virtual asset is transferred free of charge,” namely the airdrop receiver.

    Decentralized exchange Uniswap has blocked 253 crypto addresses in its four months of working with blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs. The addresses were mostly blocked because of connections with stolen funds or transaction mixing services like Tornado Cash, which was recently sanctioned by the US Treasury.

    Uniswap initially blocked addresses that were indirectly related to sanctioned addresses, but has since scaled that back. Now it only blocks addresses that were sanctioned or have directly received hacked or stolen funds.
