Panama City mayor says canal should give Bitcoin-paying ships faster access

Mayer Mizrachi suggested allowing ships to pay in Bitcoin for faster passage through the Panama Canal during the Bitcoin 2025 conference. This initiative aims to enhance transit efficiency and aligns Panama’s policies with Bitcoin adoption trends.

The Panama Canal is vital for global trade, facilitating around 5% of maritime traffic and generating approximately 5 billion USD in revenue last fiscal year. With nearly 10,000 ships transiting annually, efficient management is crucial.

Mizrachi urged legislators to adopt a hands-off approach to cryptocurrency regulation, stressing the importance of allowing the market to function freely while deciding on future regulations.
