PayPal will offer a 3.7% yield on balances held in its stablecoin, PayPal USD (PYUSD), with the aim of boosting adoption. The initiative will reward users monthly with PYUSD.
The yield program is expected to begin in the summer of 2025. This strategic step highlights PayPal’s commitment to expanding its cryptocurrency services and encouraging stablecoin use.
Currently, PYUSD’s market cap stands at $873.3 million, a significant drop from its initial $1 billion. Regulatory challenges regarding how yield-bearing stablecoins are classified have been noted.
