Solana targets near-instant finality as Alpenglow upgrade heads to vote

The Alpenglow proposal is currently in the validator voting phase. More than 10% of validators have shown support while 88% of eligible validators have yet to weigh in.

The upgrade intends to replace the current Proof-of-History and TowerBFT mechanisms with Votor, reducing transaction finality to around 150 milliseconds, and Rotor to optimize data transfer for high-activity applications.

Alpenglow introduces a ‘20+20’ resilience model, ensuring the network’s ongoing operation even if 20% of validators are adversarial and another 20% are offline, enhancing overall security.
