South Africa to revise regulations for inclusion of crypto assets in capital management framework

The South African Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, disclosed plans to draft new regulations aiming to officially include crypto assets in the capital management framework. This effort focuses on enhancing the regulation of cross-border capital transactions.

Following a court ruling that cryptocurrencies are not classified as ‘money’, the South African Reserve Bank appealed for clarity. The proposed reforms seek to ensure accountability and establish clear reporting structures for cross-border crypto transactions.
