Tech giants divided in reaction to EU AI code as Microsoft signs, Meta rejects

Microsoft’s President, Brad Smith, expressed a strong likelihood of signing the EU AI Code, highlighting support for new regulations. Meanwhile, Meta views the code as excessive, criticizing it as a hindrance to business growth, showcasing a rift among tech giants on regulatory approaches.

Despite announcing significant layoffs impacting over 15,000 employees, Microsoft plans to invest around 80 billion USD in AI data centers. The company cites productivity gains from AI integrations but states that these efficiencies are not the main driver behind workforce reductions.
