July 28, 2000 marks the birth of the Vietnamese stock market with its first two stocks. Subsequently, many large companies were listed, such as Vinh Son – Song Hinh (VSH), which was the largest market capitalization company in 2005. At the beginning of 2006, Vinamilk’s stock (VNM) doubled the market capitalization in one day upon its listing. Vietnam’s accession to the WTO in November 2006 sparked a boom with a series of large companies like FPT, Vietcombank, and Vingroup going public. In December 2006, FPT became the largest company on the exchange with a capitalization of 28 trillion VND. From 2015 to 2022, Vinamilk and Vingroup alternated in leading market capitalization. Currently, Vingroup and Vietcombank hold top positions. To date, over 50 companies have a market capitalization exceeding 1 billion USD, and the market is expected to welcome more major players soon.
