In July 2025, the Vietnamese stock market will celebrate its 25th anniversary, having started trading on July 28, 2000, with only 2 stocks. In its early years, Vinh Son Song Hinh (VSH) became the largest company on the board with a capitalization of 16 trillion VND after listing in July 2005. However, Vinamilk’s entry in January 2006 doubled the market capitalization. Vietnam’s accession to the WTO in late 2006 stimulated rapid market growth with many large companies going public. FPT made its mark by listing in December 2006 with a capitalization of 28 trillion VND. Currently, Vietcombank leads with a value over 476 trillion VND, followed by Vingroup and other major banks. There are now over 50 companies with market capitalizations over 1 billion USD, and the market is expected to see new names by late 2025.
