The Chess Game of Billionaire Phuong Thao in Thailand: Mass Recruitment of 5,000 Personnel, Deploying ‘Key’ 50 Boeing 737 MAX to Reshape the Game

Thai Vietjet Air, a Thailand-based airline owned 52% by Thai Vietjet Aviation and 9% by Vietjet Air, has announced plans to recruit 5,000 new employees to support new direct flights to Japan, South Korea, and India. The airline currently employs about 1,300 staff, and upon recruitment, its total will rise to 6,300, positioning it to compete with Thai Airways and Thai AirAsia. In 2024, VietJet recorded a profit of 64 million baht, with a 45% revenue increase from the previous year. Thai Vietjet has been operational since 2016 and currently operates 33 routes. The airline will receive 50 Boeing 737 MAX from a 200-plane order by 2025, expanding its fleet and enhancing competitiveness. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Vietjet’s Chairwoman, emphasized the commitment to sustainable aviation development and the ‘Three Connections’ strategy between Vietnam and Thailand.
