The regions of Karelia, Penza Oblast, and Khakassia are pushing for bans on crypto mining as they join the trend of over a dozen others that have imposed similar restrictions. The increasing number of regions seeking such bans indicates a growing official stance against crypto mining in Russia.
Mining operations have already faced negative impacts, with legal miners potentially forced underground due to regulations. The Irkutsk Oblast has imposed a permanent ban until March 15, 2031, citing high power load, indicating serious implications for the mining industry’s future in these regions.
Despite the crackdown on mining, power distributors are reporting significant financial losses, with the Irkutsk area losing nearly 9.6 million USD due to the ban. This highlights the complex relationship between regional regulations and the economic repercussions for both miners and utilities.
