U.S. Levies 93.5% tariff on Chinese battery materials

Beginning July 18, 2025, the U.S. Will impose a 93.5% tariff on battery materials imported from China to protect local producers against unfair trade practices. This tariff is expected to increase battery cell costs by approximately $7 per kilowatt-hour.

Following the announcement, Tesla’s shares declined by 1.4%. The tariff is anticipated to impact the electric vehicle sector significantly, as the U.S. Department of Commerce underscores the need to stabilize competition among manufacturers.
