The National Bank of Ukraine is exploring cryptocurrency legalization, but it will not be permitted for payments, according to NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyy. The bank aims to protect its monetary tools from potential disruption.
Governor Pyshnyy mentioned the importance of adhering to global standards for monitoring crypto transactions to prevent illegal activities. Legalizing cryptocurrencies could improve Ukraine’s standing in the global financial community.
The NBU is currently piloting its digital currency, the e-hryvnia, with a tech partner to assess feasibility. The bank is also observing other countries’ development of central bank digital currencies to inform its future decisions.
