US housing dept mulls blockchain, stablecoin to pay and monitor grants: report

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development is considering using stablecoins and blockchain technology for grant management to improve transparency in social housing initiatives. This could represent a pilot for wider cryptocurrency adoption by federal agencies.

While some HUD officials support the blockchain experiment, others are skeptical, highlighting the potential volatility of stablecoin payments. The department’s spokesperson emphasized that currently there are no concrete implementation plans for these technologies.
