Vietnam’s First USD 1.4 Billion LNG Power Plant Sets Commissioning Date, Capable of ‘Illuminating’ 60% of Dong Nai Province

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam has approved the National Power Development Plan 2021-2030, which sets a total LNG thermal power capacity of 22,524 MW by 2030. Among 21 prioritized projects, Nhon Trach 3 and 4 are expected to commence commercial operations in August and November 2025, respectively, providing around 9-12 billion kWh/year, which equates to 60% of Dong Nai’s electricity demand. Other projects are planned for deployment in 2028-2029, including LNG Quang Ninh and LNG Thai Binh. Vietnam is offering several incentives for LNG power, such as reduced import taxes and regulations on minimum electricity output. The Nhon Trach 3 and 4 projects have a total investment of USD 1.4 billion and are expected to enhance the national power supply.
