The Youth Joint Stock Company (HAGL) is expanding the mulberry segment in agriculture, adding to its staple crops of bananas and durians. The company has recently operationalized a silk thread factory in Gia Lai, which features automated systems that select and process silkworm cocoons before producing raw silk threads. HAGL plans to establish two factories: one in Ham Rong with a capacity of 280 tons/year, and another in Gia Lai with a capacity of 1,000 tons/year. Currently, the company manages 1,000 hectares of mulberry, with plans to extend to 2,000 hectares for self-sufficient raw materials. The finished raw silk is targeted for export to India at around 65 USD/kg (approximately 1.6 million VND). In addition to raw silk production, the factory will also utilize silkworm pupae for food and use substandard silk threads to create fabric. Chairman Đoàn Nguyên Đức is optimistic about the profitability of mulberry cultivation, reaffirming HAGL’s aim for 100% self-sufficiency in raw materials.
