The Vietnam stock market officially started operations on July 28, 2000, with only 2 stocks. Initially, the development was slow, but from 2005, many large companies like Vinh Son – Song Hinh (VSH) went public, with VSH being the largest at 16,000 billion VND. In 2006, Vinamilk (VNM)’s listing doubled HOSE’s capitalization. Notably, Vietnam’s accession to the WTO in November 2006 spurred many companies to list. FPT debuted in December 2006 as the largest with a capitalization of 28,000 billion VND. From 2015-2022, Vinamilk and Vingroup alternately held the top capital positions, with Vingroup now at over 365,000 billion VND. In 2009, banks joined the market, with Vietcombank (VCB) becoming the largest since 2021 with over 476,000 billion VND. Currently, there are over 50 companies with over 1 billion USD in capitalization, and significant names are on the list. The market is set for a major event with TCBS preparing for an IPO.
