Good news for Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet: The government issues a decree to allow the import of aircraft from Russia, China, Brazil, Canada, and the UK

Decree No. 89/2025/ND-CP, issued on April 13, 2025, allows Vietnam to import aircraft from various countries beyond the US and Europe. The new regulations expand recognition from aviation authorities in Russia, China, Brazil, Canada, and the UK. This aims to improve the aircraft shortage situation and allow airlines in Vietnam more flexibility in aircraft selection while promoting international cooperation. Currently, many aircraft are in storage due to a lack of certification and maintenance. Vietjet and Vietnam Airlines plan to utilize aircraft from COMAC (China) and Embraer (Brazil) for effective operations, especially as high airfares stem from the aircraft shortage. Furthermore, the Prime Minister has encouraged COMAC to collaborate in developing the aviation industry, including establishing maintenance centers in Vietnam.
